"Every outfit is a unique vehicle, one of the charms I guess. Your particular recipe is for you to create and gain experience. The outcome may not suit others, or gain their support, however, you will have created your own particular steed. Whatever, as with all such vehicles, there will be joy, laughs, highs, and lows. It was ever so."

EVENTS FOR 2010 - We have updated our Events page. Basically this meant erasing those that have now been, hopefully enjoyed, and gone. Now it's time to think about next year with some enthusiasm. Whilst hardy types will still get around and about over the darker months, hopefully including ourselves, most get through the winter by looking forward to Spring and beyond. Our club, South Yorkshire Sidecar Club will once again get out in December and January on two day runs, the traditional post Christmas CobWeb Run, and an extra group visit to a small motorcycle museum in Derbyshire. Then there will ne the Thixendale indoor camping weekend in February, which could be eventful if the snow decides to influence things.

Of more interest to the braoder sidecar camping community will be the Easter Egg Rally. A success in 2009 at its new venue near Doncaster, the preparations are already being made to welcome friends from around the country, and maybe again from further afield.

If you have an event you would like to be publicised on this web site, do feel free to get in touch.

USA TRIP - We have enjoyed our time in the USA, mainly for the time we spent with friends, but also the opportunities to ride a sidecar outfit in and around the Colorado Rockies. Three memorable rides with much to recall, including a ride up Mount Evans, as well as taking in such tremendous scenery around places such as Aspen. The weather varied from warm and sunny to icy conditions when the benefits of a heated waistcoat were very obvious. More in due course, but in the meantime thanks to our dear friends, Doyne and Darlene.

BYE BYE BUELL - As we left the USA, Harley Davidson announced the closure of their Buell motorcycle division, with immediate effect. Much comment in the motorcycle media, and on internet forums bemoaned the passing of Eric Buell's brainchild. However, perhaps in the final analysis the Buell motorcycle range was just not compatable with the Harley empire. Eric's sue of Harley motive power, stemming from his days as a Harley employee, was always a factor. However, warranty claims and some design problems led to a full takeover in the late 1990s. Whilst the attempt to resolve issues, and save Harley pride was notable, it didn't change the fact that the Buell concept has always been distant from the company and traditional customers. Added to which, sales woes and profitability required some radical measures, i.e. RIP Buell.

SIDECAR VILLAGE AT UTTOXETER SHOW 2010 - The 2009 event was a great success. The Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club's Fourth Classic Motorcycle Show at Uttoxeter is already booked for 3rd and 4th July 2010. Thanks to the enthusiasm of a number of participating sidecar types the inaugural Sidecar Village made its own specific contribution to the Show.Individual participants camped alongside their machinery, adding another dimension to the display. Trade support from Charnwood Classic Restorations, the UK's major sidecar retailler, plus F2 Motorcycles, in the shape of Dave Angel, who supplies Ural motorcycles outfits, added a worthwhile touch.

It is to be hoped that more trade participation will feature in 2010, plus that individual participation is even larger, and as varied as this year's endeavour proved to be. In difficult times, sidecarring needs all the publicity it can get, alongside what is certainly being gained by the fast developing VJMC Classic Motorcycle Show. Some have already booked their spots in the Sidecar Village for 2010, so this is both encouraging and promising. Don't want to wish our lives away, but it is something we are looking forward to enjoying again.

A comprehensive report on the 2009 Uttoxeter Classic Show can be found at the Tri Anglia Wheels Sidecar Club website, http://sidecarland.co.uk/Uttoxeter.aspx
